I can't help but feel this is an hommage to Rammstein's "Waidmanns Heil".
Talks about monsters on the sea with even the ührase "weiter, weiter in's Verderben" being used?
Whether intentional or not, I think this is quite the illustration of that song. Exceptional work!

Whoops, missed this review! You're close, very close! The lyrics are actually from Rammstein's 'Dalai Lama' from Reise, Reise. I danced around with many different titles for this piece. It was actually originally inspired by Norwegian folk/black metal, but the meaning that the piece took on changed over time.
I feel like the lyrics bounce back and forth with the painting and some of the meanings I put into it. For me, it's a metaphor for facing personal demons, yourself, or getting involved in some type of relationship. In a lot of these instances in life, there is a glorious climax (in this case, sunset) on the horizon, but it is not easily accessed. It's too late to turn around. The thing is, however, is we don't know whether or not the beasts will attack us- or if they do, will it be the end?

These are all points of conflict I feel are common with taking any form of a "leap of faith." For me, just getting in the boat to start with has been the hardest part of life.

This looks cool. I really like the style. Although it's pretty hard to see that the thing being stabbes is a tongue.

Yeah true, though it will be much more identifiable once I include color. I will also put that version up as soon as it is done.
